Please Clap

about

Asking people to clap for you at your own political rally is deeply hilarious to me, and if I can’t just make a song soley built around mocking Jeb Bush then what even is art!?

Nobody thought Donald Trump would get past the first few primaries, Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio and the rest of the adults were there to stop him. The media hammered this point again and again, and anyone who took Trump seriously was literally laughed at on cable news programs. So --

Please clap.

Other than the immortal moment of Jeb Bush’s defining humiliation, the strings are from Phillip Glass’ score to Paul Schrader’s film “Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters”, specifically the piece “1937: Saint Sebastian”. It is performed by the Kronos Quartet. The piece accompanies Yukio Mishima’s realization, as a young teen, that he has homosexual feelings after being aroused by a depiction of a naked Saint Sebastian being pierced by arrows.

Yukio Mishima was a great author of Japanese fiction, and he also attempted a coup of the Japanese armed forces and committed seppuku when he failed. This happened in the 1970s. This would be like if Margaret Atwood attempted a coup. Post-War Japan: There Are Some Problems.
